Losing my heart in Vienna💝

My expectations were huge before going to Vienna. It has been high on my bucket list for years and now I was finally going there. What could I expect? Would Austrias capital deliver?

Arriving in Vienna, we approached the inner city circle and I was already stunned before even leaving the airport shuttle. So many beautiful buildings in one spot!

Arriving at the hotel The Guesthouse Vienna, I was escorted to the top suite. This hotel will get its own blog post soon, an absolutely wonderful five-star hotel! The view from my room was great, looking directly at the Sacher Hotel and the Albertina Museum. I was in heaven.

This little corner was soon to be my favorite place in the room, I just love such little details!

The city was about to be explored and I soon realized that 3-4 days wouldn’t be enough. The historic and cultural offer of Vienna is unique. So where to begin? My first impression is mostly absorbed by strolling around in the search of somewhere to eat:-)

And so I did. I first discovered the main shopping street and the stunning St. Stephan cathedral with its colorful roof. I could already feel the city and it felt good.

What first hit me; there were patisseries and chocolateries on every corner and I thought, this is my city! After having had dinner at the Gulaschmuseum, which was really good, I headed for my personal highlight of the evening, the Sacher Cafe. It didn’t let me down!

After a great meal and the best Sacher cake I have ever tasted, the stroll could continue. I came to the City Hall and the surrounding area and was amazed again. Check this out:

Next morning, the exploration went on and I have to admit, Vienna is forever going to be one of my favorite cities when it comes to arcitechture and historic buildings (and food and drink and museums and, and, and…). One building more beautiful than the next and it never stops. Wandering through the city, it really became even clearer to me how much great history we have in Europe and how sad it is that so much of it got destroyed during WWII. But luckily, there are still historic wonders like Vienna for us to visit and admire.

In the evening, I was invited for a three-course meal in my hotel, and it blew me away. The food was just amazing! I had lamb (and a cosmopolitan)🤗

A friend recommended a visit to the Gerstner K.u.K. Hofzuckerbäcker cafe on the following day, and I am SO glad I did! What a charming place with an mind-blowing variety of elegant treats. I lingered and enjoyed whilst having the Sisi Cake with a sparkling Rosé.

A very important part of visiting a city, is the culinary side of it. I discovered a great japanese restaurant on my way with a reservation system that was new to me and brilliant in my opinion. On each table, there was a tablet where you could enter your order without waiting for a waiter. The portions were small and absolutely delicious and would arrive shortly after entering the order. This way, you only order what you can actually eat and the food waste is reduced to a minimum. So easy and so genious. Way to go, Ebi Restaurant!

After a breakfast in the morning that put a smile on my face before even getting out of bed, it was time to go home.

One thing is for sure though, I have to go back to this beautiful city! There is so much more I have to see and so many museums I want to visit. There are so many more cakes to be enjoyed and restaurants to be discovered. To be honest, you will not find the friendliest people in the world in this city, but it really didn’t matter at all because the city itself made up for its unfriendly people. Thank you, Vienna, and see you again soon!

And thank you to my boyfriend for bringing me to the city of my dreams as a surprise!💝

Dare to make your dreams come true, the journey starts with a single step!

  6. Looks like you had a great time in Vienna, somewhere that’s almost become a second home for me. Glad you got to see both Gerstner and the Gulaschmuseum, certainly some good picks. And you also found the Fersel Passage which is really quite beautiful and often missed by people just walking past. Winter really is a perfect time to visit! #TheWeeklyPostcard

  7. Oh my. There should have been a #FoodPorn warning! 😉 Chocolate, Sacher Torte, Macarons… we can see why you lost your heart in Vienna! It’s a gorgeous city with lots of history and cafes, all of which we love. Our challenge would be not coming home with a few extra pounds in exchange for losing our hearts. 😉 Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard!
